HIs STORY
Deacon James Green was born on July 18, 1930, in Brandon, Mississippi, to the late James “Poppa” Green & Sorintha "Bigmama” Green.
Deacon Green transitioned from his earthly home on September 16, 2022, at the Regency of Chene Nursing Facility in Detroit, Michigan.
Deacon Green grew up in Brandon, Mississippi, where he was affectionately known as “Boy”. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a combat engineer. During his military service, he had the opportunity to visit the White House in Washington, D.C., where he met the 34" president Dwight Eisenhower.
In 1966, Deacon Green (by faith) moved to Detroit, Michigan, in pursuit of a better life for his family.
He retired from Peerless Chemical Company in 1987 where he was employed as an Environmental Chemist.
Deacon Green was a devoted man of God and Served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Deacon Green was a member of New Victory Way Assembly COGIC under the leadership of Pastor & First Lady Rowan, where he served faithfully until his iliness.
If you came in contact with him, you would always leave feeling better from his. comy jokes, great sense of humor and many stories of his life experiences.
He is preceded in death by his parents, precious wife (Mother Vernell Green) who he affectionately called “Nell”, his daughter Sheila Faye Green along with 7 siblings, Herdisene Bridges, Ira Berry, Ulysses Green, Viola Hawthorne, Mildred Dorsey, Ermon (Anne Stine) Green, Richard (Sue) Green. Also 3 Grandsons, Vershawn E. Green, Vincent L. Green and James Green Washington.
Dad Green, affectionly known as Daddy & PawPaw, leaves to celebrate his life of love, kindness & precious memories by his 5 children who called him their hero. Jimmy (Viola) Green, Virginia Washington, Sandra (Troy) Jones, Sharon (Michael) Ware of Dallas, Georgia, Patrick (Danyell) Green, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grand children, 8 great, great-grandchildren. 2 godchildren, Eddie & Janice Jackson, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
