Lonnie James Roberson was the second child born to Cleo and Lela Mae Folks Roberson in Matthews, Alabama.

He confessed Christ at an early age.  He attended Elizabeth Baptist Church until he moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he held varies jobs until moving to Detroit, Michigan.  Upon moving to Detroit, he joined New Light Baptist Church where he was instrumental in raising funds to establish New Light Nursing Home.  He later joined Springhill Baptist Church and finally he became a member of Elim Baptist Church.  Lonnie worked in various organizations within the church and he was most proud of his involvement in the Brotherhood.

Lonnie worked in the auto industry and later retired from Diamond Heat and Treat Inc. after more than 20 years.

On any given Sunday, you could find Lonnie sitting in his den flipping through television channels between sporting events.  He enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and his beloved Tom Brady.

He married the love of his life, Lillie Ann Davis who preceded him in death after more than 30 years of marriage.  He was also preceded in death by a younger brother Clinton Roberson (Emma).

He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, LeeEthel Hubbard, and Eloise Dixon (Timothy); three brothers, Cleveland (Willie Jane); Willie Edward (Annie); and Douglas (Mamie); a devoted nephew, Stanley Roberson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road and the sun has

set for me

I want no rites in a gloom filled room

Why cry for a soul set free?

For this is a journey we all must take and each must go alone.

It’s all part of the master plan

A step on the road to home.
