Leon Perry Jr Obituary
The Honorable Life Journey Of Leon Perry, Jr.
Leon Perry, Jr. “Juree” was born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 10, 1938 to
the late Leon Perry, Sr. and Carrie Perry, who both preceded him in death.
Leon is the oldest of seven children and also a “preacher’s kid”. He started his
journey being grounded and rooted with a discipline of Family first, no matter
what and was introduced to Jesus Christ during his formative years, by his
parents.
The Perry family relocated to Detroit, Michigan during a time where
employment was plentiful and opportunities for African American people was
lucrative. Leon took full advantage of the new opportunities and was heavily
involved with community development projects, entrepreneurship and
networking. For a short lived period of time, Leon relocated to Chicago, IL at an
early age and worked as a cook only to later become a master chef.
Leon always greeted everyone with a welcoming smile and had excellent
people skills. If asked how he was, he’d reply “I’m doing”, “I’m better”, or
“Everything is alright”. Leon attended Eastern High School where he played
football and loved to dance. He became a great bowler because be worked at
the bowling ally and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy.
Leon was a man of great style, fashion, men’s jewelry, and absolutely loved
the City f Detroit, Candy, Cadillacs, Chocolate, hats and jazz music. Along with
his stylish image, he became a successful business owner in the 1970’s with
Perry’s Party Stores throughout the city of Detroit, MI, Nature’s Nutrition Heath
Food Store in the 1980’s as well as selling men’s and women’s apparel,
jewelry, and footwear. Leon was a well known community business owner who
simply cared enough to ensure everyone within his reach did not go to bed
hungry. He could be found every morning at the Detroit Eastern Market
purchasing fresh produce for his businesses and family.
Leon lived a lifestyle of trials, errors, successes, failures and triumph! He
pursued his dreams in every area of life until Jesus called him to Glory.
Although he had knowledge of the Lord Jesus he accepted Jesus as Lord and
Saviour of his life on July 12, 2015.
Leon attended the family church until his father transitioned into Heaven. He
later attended Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit, MI with his late wife, Carolyn
and two step sons. Everyone loved Juree’s cooking, especially beans. He
loved everything that would bring a laugh and a smile.

memories: two daughters Lisa Perry, Yolanda Bobby, four sons, Michael Perry,
Artist Perry (Diana), Jeffrey Perry (Tanesha), and Darryl Perry, two step sons,
